> 2012 mazda2 Features: safety

Air Bags

Seriously safe, the Mazda2 is equipped with six standard air bags*.
  • Advanced front air bags protect head and chest.
  • Front side-impact air bags help provide protection for chest and abdominal areas.
  • Side-impact air curtains help protect front and outboard rear passengers.

*Always wear your seat belt and secure children in the rear seats in appropriate child restraints.

DSC/TCS

There's standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)* and Traction Control System (TCS) on every Mazda2.
  • Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) modulates the throttle and brakes when it detects control slipping in tight turns to help keep the vehicle stable during aggressive maneuvers.
  • Standard Traction Control System (TCS) detects when wheels lose their grip on the road and then adjusts power to the drive wheels to provide more sure-footed acceleration in difficult driving conditions.

* Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is an electronic system to help the driver maintain control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether DSC will be effective in preventing loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details.

Body Structure

Safe and sound - Mazda2 is solid where it counts.

  • "Triple H" body construction offers the ultimate in safety engineering for a strong passenger compartment that helps protect you from top and both sides.
  • High tensile steel adds strength without adding weight - keeping it safe, but nimble.
  • Additional spot welds and special adhesives between panels help improve body strength.

Additional Safety Features

Just like mom, the Mazda2 does everything possible to keep you safe.

  • The Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) monitors tire pressure and alerts you before tires become critically low.
  • Anti-lock brakes (ABS) help prevent lockup and more importantly, help the driver maintain steering control during hard braking.
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) monitors vehicle weight distribution to determine how much force to apply to the front and rear brakes.
  • Brake Assist applies maximum braking pressure in an emergency situation.
